WCQS Summer Raffle 2012: Rules & Regulations
Western North Carolina Public Radio (d.b.a WCQS) is incorporated as a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit corporation under the laws of the State of North Carolina for the primary purpose of operating an educational public radio station. The WCQS Summer Raffle is conducted for the purpose of generating operating funds.
Purchase one or more raffle tickets during the WCQS Summer Raffle and you’ll be entered in a drawing to win one of five prizes. Raffle tickets are $50 each. Odds of winning are based on the number of ticket entries purchased. Must be 18 years of age or older. Contest void where prohibited. Sweepstakes begin at 12:01 am on July 16, 2012 and end at midnight on August 25. All times referenced for the WCQS Summer Raffle are Eastern Time.
HOW TO ENTER: There are three ways to enter.
- Go to http://www.wcqs.org/support/car-raffle/ to the WCQS Summer Raffle” and complete the online entry form and pay entry fee with your credit card.
- Call WCQS at 828-210-4800 during regular business hours, M-F. Provide your entry information (name, address, telephone, email) over the phone along with credit card information.
- Mail completed entry form to WCQS, 73 Broadway, Asheville, NC 28801 with your payment for $50 per ticket. Entry forms may be obtained at the WCQS at 828-210-4800 or by downloading and printing the WCQS Raffle Entry Form at WCQS.org. Mailed entries must be received by WCQS no later than noon on August. 23, 2012.
SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION OF WINNERS: Winners will be selected at random and announced on the air for the Early Bird Drawing on August 9, 2012. Winners will be selected at random and announced on the air for the Grand Prize Drawing on August 30, 2012. Once submitted, entries become the sole property of WNC Public Radio and will not be returned. Winners will be notified by telephone, mail and/or email. If potential winner(s) cannot be reached after 10 days from first notification attempt, or if an entrant is found to be ineligible, or a prize notification is returned as undeliverable, such prize will be forfeited and alternate winner(s) will be selected by random drawing.
EARLY BIRD DRAWING: Purchase a raffle ticket by midnight on August 7, 2012, and you’ll qualify for an early bird drawing for $1,000 worth of gas, donated by Ingles. (Mailed entries for Early Bird portion of the WCQS Summer Raffle must be received by close of business on August 7, 2012) Participants in the early-bird drawing are automatically entered in the grand prize drawings. Winner of the gas cards will be selected in a random drawing and announced on the air. Once submitted, entries become the sole property of WNC Public Radio, Inc. and will not be returned. Winner will be notified by telephone, mail and/or email. If potential winner cannot be reached after 10 days from the first notification attempt, or if an entrant is found to be ineligible, such prize will be forfeited and an alternate winner will be selected by random drawing. Winner will be drawn at random and announced on air August 9, 2012.
PRIZES: Grand prize is 2012 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen TDI (value: $29,435) donated in part by Harmony Motors. Second and third prize are $500 worth of Car Washes, donated in part by Autobell. Fourth prize is a high river adventure for four on the Cheoah River donated by the Nantahala Outdoor Center (value: $800). Winners will be drawn at random and announced on air August 30, 2012.
TAX OBLIGATIONS: The IRS now requires raffle winner to pay federal taxes on the raffle winnings at the time of the award. If the winner of the car is from NC, they will pay 3% state tax plus $65 for a vehicle registration to Harmony Motors.Grand prize winner will also pay 25% of MSRP minus cost of raffle ticket by certified check to WCQS for the IRS. All local, state and federal taxes are the sole responsibility of the winner. For any prizes values at $1200 or more, WCQS will file IRS Form 1099 MISC with Internal Revenue Service reporting the value of the prize as income to the winner. Winner must show proof of social security number of WCQS. This is for tax recording purposes only, and will be not be used or released for any other purposes.
MODIFICATIONS OR CANCELLATION OF DRAWING: WCQS reserves the right to cancel or modify the Raffle. If 500 tickets are not sold by 5 p.m. on July 31st, WCQS, at its option, may cancel the Grand Prize drawing.
IMPORTANT CAR INFORMATION: Upon verification of the winner, WCQS will notify Harmony Motors to finalize the transfer of the vehicle to the winner. The vehicle is a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen 2.0L TDI. The color is Candy White with Cornsilk Beige leather interior, includes 2.0L TDI Clean Diesel features, plus 17” Porto alloy wheels’ power tilting/sliding panoramic sunroof. The terms of the car dealership’s and manufacturer’s automobile transfer documentation will govern issues of liability relating to the prize after acceptance of the automobile by the Winner.
INDEMNIFICATION AND LIMIT ON LIABILITY: As a condition of accepting a prize, winner acknowledges that WCQS is not responsible for any harm, injury, or damage caused to any person or property, proximate or otherwise, through the use of any prize by any person, and agrees to save and hold harmless WCQS, its principals and employees from any claim of such responsibility. “Harm, injury or damage” includes but is not limited to occurrences beyond the control of WCQS such as death, bodily injury, property damage, or theft, or for failure of any automobile manufacturer’s or dealership’s warranties.
GENERAL: Ticket purchases are not tax deductible. By entering the raffle, participants agree that WCQS, its agents and employees have no liability whatsoever for any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind which result from the date of award. The prize is non-transferable, and cannot be exchanged for cash. WCQS may use winner’s name and likeness for publicity purposes without further compensation. WCQS is not responsible for any failure of communications or failure of the Internet or its website. WCQS reserves the right to modify these rules and will give prompt announcement of any rule changes. All decisions of WCQS are final and binding in all matters related to this raffle.

Present board members of Western North Carolina Public Radio and any immediate family members residing with employees are not eligible to participate. Employees of Harmony Motors and any immediate family members residing with Harmony Motors employees are not eligible to participate. Must be 18 years or older to enter. Contest void where prohibited. You need not be present to win.
AFFIDAVIT OF ELIGIBILITY AND LIABILITY / PUBLICITY RELEASE OF GRAND PRIZE WINNER: The Winner must show proof of valid driver’s license and will be required to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility and Publicity/Liability Release in order to claim their prize.
AUTHORITY AND CONTROL: The decision of WCQS shall be final in all matters concerning the Raffle. The Raffle is subject to the laws of the state of North Carolina. The Raffle is void where prohibited by law. WCQS is not responsible for any errors or omissions in the Raffle’s advertising and/or any printed, broadcast, or internet-provided materials or information.
