City of Asheville Election
THREE NEWCOMERS HAVE WON SEATS ON ASHEVILLE CITY COUNCIL.
Voters in Asheville have elected three newcomers to City Council. Esther Manheimer finished first, followed by Gordon Smith and Cecil Bothwell. Incumbent Carl Mumpower finished fourth.
Fellow incumbent Robin Cape, who waged a write in campaign, finished no better than fifth. Mayor Terry Bellamy faced only token opposition and was easily reelected capturing nearly 79 percent of the vote.
In Swannanoa, voters rejected a referendum on incorporation. Voters opposed to incorporation tallied 61 percent of the vote. It will be several days before election results are official.
