This week, From the Top comes to you from the Sarasota Opera House in Sarasota, Florida where we’ll hear an 11-year-old violinist who loves to contemplate the cosmos, a 17-year-old horn player who’s practice regimen has inspired a need word, and a young pianist who sleeps with her eyes open.
10 pm: JAZZ SHACK
Two of the early veterans of New Orleans jazz were trumpeter Bunk Johnson and reed player Sidney Beebet. We’ll begin tonight with some Blue Notes sides made by these two in New York in 1945 with some Blue Note sides from Sidney de Paris as well. Also scheduled are Artie Shaw sides from a deluxe Mosaic edition which was released two years ago.

7 am: SELECTED SHORTS
Two stories about illusion, presented by guest host Neil Gaiman: "Miracle Polish," by Steven Millhauser, performed by Paul Hecht and "The Open Window," by Saki, performed by Tandy Cronyn.
12 pm: THE SPLENDID TABLE
This week on the Splendid Table it's another installment of our Key 3 series with Thai food expert Andy Ricker. Jane and Michael Stern are at Sylvan Park in Nashville, TN, we take on homemade mustards with Los Angeles Times reporter Noelle Carter and we look at travel and life through its knives with Allegra McEvedy, author of _Bought, Borrowed & Stolen, Recipes & Knives from a Traveling Chef_.
3 pm: STATE OF THE RE:UNION - "Who is this Man?"
MLK Jr.’s “I have a Dream” speech has become the shorthand of the Civil Rights Movement-- but we might never have heard it, if it were not for another man, who’s largely been forgotten by history: Bayard Rustin.
4 pm: THIS AMERICAN LIFE – “Surrogates”
Stories of kids using perfectly logical arguments, and arriving at perfectly wrong conclusions.
6 pm: A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION
This week on A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor, we're kicking off a five-week homestand in Saint Paul, Minnesota with a live broadcast from The Fitzgerald Theater followed by our Prairie Home Companion Masked Ball. With special guests, big-voiced vocalist Topsy Chapman and our good friend Butch Thompson and His New Orleans Orphans. Plus, the Royal Academy of Radio Actors, Tim Russell, Sue Scott and Fred Newman, The Guy's All-Star Shoe Band, and the latest News from Lake Wobegon.
