This week From the Top is in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for a show featuring a 17-year-old tuba player and a duo from the Percussion Scholarship Group in Chicago. You'll also hear from two teenage string players.

10 pm: JAZZ SHACK
One of the first modern jazz pianists was born in Pennsylvania in 1931. Sonny Clark was very active in the NYC and LA studios by his early twenties. We’ll begin tonight with some Verve sides he made with the bebop influenced clarinestist Buddy de Franco in 1954. Also scheduled are sides from tenor John Coltrane and vocalist Rachael Price.

Plus, the Royal Academy of Radio Actors, Tim Russell, Sue Scott, Lindsay Marcy, and Fred Newman, guitar man Dean Magraw sits in with The Guy's All-Star Shoe Band, and the latest News from Lake Wobegon.
