Downtown Asheville's popular Jazz After 5 series returns in 2010 with some big changes. The free concerts will take place in a great new space at Pack Place from 5 - 8 p.m. on Friday January 23rd. Pack Place and The Asheville Downtown Association co-present the series that features local musicians and food from area restaurants.
Also new this year is the addition of WCQS as the media sponsor of the series. WCQS will receive half of the money raised from wristband sales. Local beer, Biltmore wine and signature martinis will be available for purchase, but like all Asheville festivals, people must be wearing a writs band to consume alcohol at the event.

On tap March 12th is the Jonathan Scales Fourchestra. Scales, classically trained composer turned steel pan Maestro, means to deliver his musically complex, but somehow assessable, ideas to anyone willing to listen. Scales has released two well-received,full-length works (2007's One-Track Mind and 2008's Plot/Scheme) featuring the likes of Jeff Coffin, Joseph Wooten, and Jeff Sipe. Scales'versatility and innovative nature has allowed him to share the stage with acts like The Wooten Brothers Band, Larry Keel & Natural Bridge, The Duhks, Everyone Orchestra, Toubab Krewe, Ben Sollee and Futureman. January 23rd is Asheville's Vertigo Jazz Project. VJP bridges the gap between multiple genres of music such as funk, Latin, rock, jam, classical, world and country while always maintaining a distinctively recognizable element of jazz.
