WCQS presents benefit holiday concert by Pastyme
WCQS will present a benefit concert by the acapella ensemble Pastyme at Asheville's St. Lawrence Basilica Sunday, December 9th at 3pm.
This concert, presented by WCQS at the St. Lawrence Basilica, will be recorded to air on WCQS during this holiday season. The recording will be made available to public radio stations nationwide for broadcast in 2013.
Pastyme will present a wide variety of music written for the Christmas and Winter seasons including compositions of Pärt, Weelkes, Sigurbjörnsson, Stroop, Poulenc and Victoria. The concert will also include a setting of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem "Snowflakes", holiday secular favorites arranged by Dick Trevarthen of Western North Carolina, and other songs and carols destined to become favorites of the holiday season.
The Basilica of Saint Lawrence offers astounding acoustics in the magnificent domed nave designed by Rafael Guastavino in the early 1900s.
